Here’s some things to consider if you decide to invite the little ones to your celebration.
It’s important to weigh out the pros and cons of deciding to have children at your wedding. Are you willing to deal with screaming toddlers while saying your vows? Or do you simply want the love of children apart of your special day? If you are considering having children present at your wedding, consider these four simple hacks that might make you and the littles ones enjoy the celebration a bit more.
If there are a few little children that you must have at your wedding, make them apart of your bridal party. This works will if your close family and friends have children. Having children either as flower girls or ring bearers will give them something to look forward to and something they can be involved in. Be sure to explain and demonstrate to them what they need to do. The kids will appreciate their “special job” and this can be great way to distract them from being bored or antsy during the ceremony.
Like planning a typical seating arrangement, seating arrangements with children is just as important. It helps to seat families with children together at one table. This way parents can watch over their kids and the other kids at the table can mingle with each other if they get anxious. If you do plan on arranging a kids table, think about putting mature children together (ages 9+). Younger kids like toddlers at a table by themselves might not be a good idea.
If you are worried about shrieking kids running around the venue like crazy, consider a game room or craft room with a designated “babysitter.” You could include games, toys, hula hoops, puzzles, coloring books, movies, etc. in the room that way they can be themselves without feeling the pressure to. There are dozens of other ways to keep children entertained like including them on dance floor or giving them bubbles to blow around. Be sure the music is kid-friendly too!
Of course, the kids need to eat too! Be sure to arrange mini versions of the adult’s dish or even a lunchbox type of meal. Be sure to know the headcount of children attending and accommodate any high chairs if needed. It also helps to provide some box juices or kid-friendly drinks they can enjoy too. Remember to let them know if you’re having an ice-cream bar or candy bar present at your wedding they can indulge in!
